Three different things

Where Cambridge English fits at SunnySeeds

Parents often ask whether this class is the same as the English in our preschool day. It is not.

Part of every Early Years day

Cambridge English with phonics is part of our nursery, preschool and kindergarten programmes from age 2. It is in the daily curriculum, not in this separate class. See the curriculum.

This enrichment class, ages 4 to 8

A standalone English class in groups of up to 10 children, covering listening, speaking, reading and writing with phonics. Message us for the current schedule.

Qualification preparation from age 6

From age 6, children can prepare for a Cambridge English Qualification according to their English level. A child who is not ready yet keeps building up to it.

How it works

Cambridge English levels, explained

The CEFR levels

The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) describes language ability in six main levels, from A1 for beginners up to C2. Pre A1 sits below A1, for young learners who are just starting.

Young learners qualifications

Cambridge English has three qualifications for young learners: Pre A1 Starters, A1 Movers and A2 Flyers. They are not tied to a fixed age; the right one depends on the child's English.

Preparing is not the same as sitting the exam

Our classes prepare children. The qualification itself is a separate external exam from Cambridge English, so ask us whether your child is ready, and about exam dates, registration and any exam fee, before you decide.

With GPEX

SunnySeeds partners with GPEX, a Cambridge English authorised platinum exam centre. GPEX is the exam centre; SunnySeeds is its partner school for this programme.

How the levels work, from Cambridge English itself: the CEFR levels and qualifications for young learners.

New to phonics? Our parent guide explains letter names, letter sounds and how English reading starts, with gentle ways to practise at home.

Weighing this class against public speaking, taekwondo or the Weekend Bonding Atelier? Our guide compares all four enrichment classes by age, timing, group and format, with a printable comparison sheet.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

Who is it for?

Children aged 4 to 8, in classes of up to 10.

Is this the same as the English in your preschool day?

No. Cambridge English with phonics is already part of our nursery, preschool and kindergarten programmes from age 2. This page is about the separate enrichment class for ages 4 to 8.

Does every child get a Cambridge certificate?

Not automatically. The class prepares children for a Cambridge English Qualification at their level, and the qualification is a separate external exam from Cambridge English. Ask us whether your child is ready, and about exam dates, registration and any exam fee, before you decide.
