Preschool fees in Klang: how to compare the full cost

The monthly fee is only one line. This guide lists what else to ask about, shows how to add it up for a full year, and gives you a blank worksheet to print and fill in at each visit.

Why the monthly fee alone can mislead

Two centres can quote the same monthly fee and cost quite different amounts over a year. One may include lunch, books and the afternoon session; another may bill them separately. Some charges are paid once, some are returned when you leave, and some come once a year. Comparing the monthly figure alone hides all of that.

This guide compares the parts that make up a fee rather than quoting a fee range for Klang. Fees depend on the programme, the hours and what is included, so ask each centre for its current fees and what they include. What we can give you is a method that works for any centre, including ours.

The lines to ask about

ItemWhat to ask
Registration feeIs it paid once? Is any of it refundable? Does paying it hold the place?
DepositHow much, when is it returned, and what can be deducted from it?
Monthly feeHow many months a year are billed, including school holidays? Is it paid monthly, by term or by year?
Session hoursWhat is the difference between half day, extended and full day? Is there a charge if pickup runs late?
Meals and snacksAre they included in the fee, and which meals come with each session?
Books and materialsIs there a yearly charge, and what does it cover?
Uniform and bagAre they required, and how much is a set?
Enrichment classesWhich classes are part of the fee, and which are extra?
External assessmentsIf children prepare for an outside test, is the exam fee included or paid separately?
Events and outingsAre concerts, graduation and trips charged separately?
InsuranceIs there a yearly insurance charge?
Transport and holiday careAre they offered, and at what cost?
Leaving and changesHow much notice is needed to withdraw or change sessions? When are fees reviewed?

Add it up for a full year

For each centre, work out the cost of the first year in one number:

  1. Add the once off charges: registration, uniform, and anything else paid at the start.
  2. Multiply the monthly fee by the number of months actually billed.
  3. Add the yearly charges: books and materials, insurance, events.
  4. Add anything billed separately that you expect to use: meals, longer hours, enrichment, transport.
  5. Write the deposit on its own line. It is money you expect back, so keep it out of the total, but note what could be deducted.

A common surprise: a centre with a lower monthly fee that bills lunch, materials and the afternoon session separately can end up close to, or above, one with a higher fee that includes them. The worksheet below puts both side by side so the difference is visible.

Tax relief and subsidies worth checking

For the year of assessment 2025, LHDN lists a relief of up to RM3,000 for fees paid to send a child aged 6 and below to a registered TASKA or tadika. A relief reduces your chargeable income rather than your tax bill directly. Keep the official receipts, and ask each centre which registration it holds; our guide to TASKA, tadika and preschool explains the difference. Check the current year's rules with LHDN before you file.

KPWKM also lists a government childcare fee subsidy for children at a TASKA. Eligibility is set by the ministry, so check its page or ask JKM.

At SunnySeeds

We explain our fees in person when you visit, and every question on this list is a fair one to ask us. Our programme pages describe what the day includes, such as snacks and a home cooked lunch, and the three session lengths. Bring the worksheet and fill in our column at the visit.
